Qatar (University of Calgary in Qatar) University of Calgary in Qatar hosts annual awards ceremony to honour outstanding students
The University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ) hosted its annual awards ceremony to celebrate and recognize the outstanding achievements of students throughout the academic year. The event held on Dec. 6 at the St. Regis Doha saw the attendance of 150 guests, including 75 outstanding students from different programs. The event included a dinner and series of speeches by Dr. Deborah White, PhD, and Dr. Mohamoud Adam, EdD, director of student and enrolment services, and was held in line with COVID-19 precautionary procedures and protocols and included a dinner, a series of speeches and an award-giving ceremony.
“It takes a substantial amount of dedication and commitment to attain the high standard of academic excellence that our students have achieved. We are honoured to host this ceremony to commemorate the achievements of our brilliant students,” said White, who is dean and professor, University of Calgary in Qatar.
Our students have demonstrated resilience, passion, and determination to become the future faces of the skilled nursing profession in Qatar. We are proud to acknowledge their ongoing achievements and wish them all the best in their nursing journey.
The event celebrated 75 students including 72 students from the Bachelor of Nursing Regular Track (BNRT), program, one student from the Bachelor of Nursing, Post-Diploma (PDBN) program, and two students from the Master of Nursing program. Honoured students were presented with the Outstanding Achievement Award which is awarded to students who have proven leadership in extra-curricular activities, supported by an impressive personal essay and a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Additionally, a number of students have also been nominated by the university’s faculty to receive the excellence in clinical practice award for Bachelor of Nursing Regular Track (BNRT) students, and the leadership award for BNRT students, PDBN students and for Masters in Nursing students.
A list of students nominated by the University of Calgary in Qatar’s dean have also been recognized for their exceptional academic achievements alongside volunteers who have been dedicating their time to support the execution of campus activities and events.
“We are immensely proud to celebrate the amazing achievements of our inspiring students. Despite all challenges, they have demonstrated resilience and have been determined to not only achieve their goals, but to exceed expectations. They have gone above and beyond to inspire the campus community and community at large. We are honoured to recognize all the hard work they have achieved,” said Adam.
