UAE (University of Sharjah) Female students from the UAE University win first places in a translation competition in Korea
Female students from the United Arab Emirates University have won first place in the 2022 Korean and Arabic comic book translation competition, which was organized by the Korea- Arab Society and the Korean Council for Children and Youth Books under the auspices of the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Seoul, Korea.
The students of the Korean language minor in the Department of Languages and Literature at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences participated in this competition over the Zoom application. The student Maha Al Mansoori won first place, the student Shamael Al Murshidi won second place, and the students Fatima Al Naqbi and Bashayer Al Yafei won third place.
Dr. Moza Al Tunaiji, Head of the Department of Languages and Literature at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, said, “It is important to give students the opportunity to participate in this kind of international competition, which the UAE University is supporting to enrich students’ experiences.
She added, “I am proud of the achievements of our students. This winning is part of a series of successes that our students have participated in and in which they achieved first places. This highlights the role played by the UAE University in preparing distinguished students in their field of specialization.”
The students considered that this win is an excellent opportunity to apply their academic studies and obtain international experiences through participation in such competitions. They also considered the competition an excellent challenge to test their skills and experiences.
The award ceremony of the Korean and Arabic comic book translation competition was held on Thursday, August 18, 2022, online over the Zoom application. 31 students from the Korean language program from several universities participated in this competition, which included the United Arab Emirates University, University of Jordan, Ain Shams University, and Aswan University from Egypt, and students of the Arabic Language Departments from 6 Korean universities.
